Shelving, storage, media walls, accent walls, and custom doors, built to fit the room.
Built-ins and custom woodwork are the pieces designed specifically for one room instead of bought off a shelf — storage, media walls, accent walls, and doors built to an exact opening. Barn doors are one example of the door work I do; interior and exterior doors in other styles are part of this too.

Box-beam columns with barn doors built to match.
A dark-finished media and entertainment built-in — open display shelving, a TV niche, and closed lower cabinets — designed and built for my own home. It's a good example of the kind of built-in storage I build for clients: sized to the actual wall, not an off-the-shelf unit.

This basement project called for a natural, unfinished-wood look throughout — no paint, no stain — so the box-beam column wraps, the K-brace enclosure door, and the built-in utility nook all stay true pine. Here's some of that work finished and in progress.

A tongue-and-groove pine nook built around a utility access point, with two custom flush-mounted, board-and-batten access doors sized to their openings — the kind of built-in that only works if it's made to fit.

Tongue-and-groove pine walls and ceiling, fully enclosed.

A built-in is designed and sized for one specific spot — a wall, an alcove, a run of ceiling, an awkward corner — rather than purchased to roughly fit a room. That's the whole appeal: no gaps on either side, no wasted inches, and a result that reads as part of the house instead of something dropped in. If you're searching for custom built-ins in Knoxville, that's generally the problem being solved — a standard shelving unit, media console, or storage piece just won't fit the space the way you want it to.
I design and build shelving, storage, accent walls, column wraps, and interior and exterior doors — including barn-style doors — to the actual dimensions of the room, often working around existing obstacles like support columns, low soffits, or uneven walls rather than hiding them. Barn doors are one example of the door work I do; standard interior doors, board-and-batten doors, and custom enclosure doors are part of it too.
A built-in media wall — TV mount or niche, open and closed storage, cable routing — built to fit the actual wall and your equipment, instead of a freestanding console that doesn't quite match the room.
Wood-clad accent walls and box-beam column wraps turn a plain structural post or blank wall into a finished feature — cap and base trim, consistent reveals, and a finish that matches the rest of the room, whether that's painted, stained, or left as raw, natural wood.

A built-in is designed and fixed to a specific spot in the house — sized to the exact opening, often attached to the wall or floor — while furniture is freestanding and movable. I build both; see Custom Furniture & Specialty Work for freestanding pieces.
Yes. I build and hang barn-style and board-and-batten doors fit to an existing opening, including hardware and track installation.
Both. Built-in work ranges from simple floating shelves to full storage cabinetry with doors, drawers, and finished ends, depending on what the room needs.
That's a normal part of the job, not an exception to it. I measure and design around the room's actual obstacles — support columns, low soffits, out-of-plumb walls — rather than assuming a clean rectangle.
I build wood-clad accent walls, column wraps, and paneled wainscot as part of built-in and custom woodwork projects, in addition to shelving, storage, and doors.
Yes. A built-in media wall uses the same storage and accent-wall techniques shown on this page — sized to your TV and equipment, with open and closed storage and cable routing built in, rather than a freestanding console.
A built-in project usually touches trim and sometimes cabinetry too. These are the services I most often pair with built-in work.
